Getting your driving licence can feel confusing, but it becomes simple once you know the steps. In Islamabad, driving licences are issued by the Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP). Here is how the process usually works.
Step 1: Apply for a learner permit
Your journey starts with a learner permit, which allows you to practise driving legally with a licensed driver beside you. You will usually need:
- Your original CNIC and photocopies
- Recent passport-size photographs
- Any form or medical certificate that ITP asks for at the time
Step 2: Practise during the waiting period
After you get your learner permit there is a waiting period before you can take the driving test, usually around six weeks. This is the perfect time to take your driving course and build real skill on the road.
Step 3: Prepare for the tests
The licence test generally has two parts:
- Traffic signs and rules test. You will be asked to identify road signs and answer basic traffic rule questions.
- Practical driving test. This usually includes manoeuvres such as the L-shaped parking track, reversing and controlled driving in front of an examiner.
Step 4: Pass and collect your licence
Once you pass both tests and complete the formalities, your licence is processed. Keep your documents safe and follow up on collection as advised by ITP.
How we help
- Practice on the "L" track until you feel fully comfortable
- Traffic signs revision during your lessons
- Guidance on documents and the learner permit process
- Our 15-day Signature Plan includes the learner licence permit
Most students who fail the test do so because of nerves, not skill. Practise the test route until it feels routine.
